65 Coronet drop 454?

I have a 65 Coronet 440. I heard motor mounts are easy to find, so a guy who use to rebuild mopar vehicles told me that i could pretty much drop any engine I want. Would I be able to drop a 454 in it?

Just about anything is possible. Depends whether or not you have to hack on the car. Weld on the car and/or rewire the car. I have not heard anyone doing that. Why not a 440 stroked out to a 505, 512 or 520 cubic inches. That will work alot easier then putting a 454 in there.

PS pounching a 440 out .060 gets it to 452 cubic inches. So why use a 454?

The 454 won't bolt up to the tranny, not sure if the radiator lines run the same way, you'll have to deal with exhaust manifolds that will fit the motor and car and then wiring.

Probably not the place to be advertising of putting a chebby motor into a mopar, but you'll have to change almost everything...

A 440 will be better to come by and easier to put in.............. Now a mopar engine into a chebby, thats okay.

But if youre a chevy guy, gtfo.

I was just wondering. Its my first car, Im only 16. I dont know much.
But also, in 1965 Dodge didnt make a 440. So a 1965 Coronet 440, isnt a true 440. The biggest engine size they made a 426.
Im kinda on a spending budget, the budget being what I can bring in myself.
I only have a 318 wedge in my 65. But I am wanting to get something with some power to it without spending over about 2000$ maybe 2500$ if its a really good deal.

A '65 "Coronet 440" has nothing to do with the engine size. It's just a model designation. For someone that doesn't know... yes, it could be confusing!

If you're 16 with a '65 Coronet 440.... Hang on to it, keep it all Mopar and trust me, you'll thank us later!

Welcome to the club!

Yep, Rick is right. A Coronet 440 is just a model, trim deal.

You could have any motor in a coronet and still have a "Coronet 440"

Now, to spending for motors. A 383 or 440 is a cheap way to go fast. I have less then $3000 into my 440 including full exhaust... It's all about the combo you go with and how well you budget finding parts.

Seeing as how you're 16, you probably don't need alot of power or torque. Start with the 318, get a 440 block and save your money for a good street motor build. Get use to the handling of an old car with a less powerful motor.

I've been driving my Dart since I was 17 with a 440 in it, but i started with a VERY MILD 340 that ran mid 14s. I started driving that when I was 15 to 17 when I decided it was time to go faster. I got used to the handling of the old car and the actual good power of what I had, especially at a younger age.

But DO NOT put a Chebby motor in that car.

First thing you are going to want to do is spend your money on brake and suspension upgrades. The poly powered car was not intended to handle any kind of big block power and it's very old technology. You want to have woa before go. A fast car that can't stop is very dangerous. These cars stock, in top shape, have a hard time stopping in todays traffic. Smaller lighter cars going and stopping quicker than 40 some years ago.

That said 2500 bucks aint gonna do it even if you already have the motor and trans and your own fab shop. Gonna be a lot of work as nothing interchanges between the two.

How many 65 coronets are here in Australia? I bought one in back in 2009 but have only seen one other 2 door coupe here.
Great choice of car mate, but leave it with a mopar engine for sure
