Voltage Regulator not, errrrr, regulating

Hi Again!

Chipping away at the electrical on my 70 R/T 383. Everything under the hood is new including electrical. I'm having an issue where the voltage regulator doesnt seem to be regulating voltage from the alternator. Putting my volt meter on the battery with the RPMs up it reaching 17-18 volts which is cooking my wire. I even added a jumper and now its cooking that one too. My 74 duster has a one wire alternator with an internal regulator, it doesnt go passed 14ish. I tried replacing the voltage regulator to my dismay no change. Checked grounds and all is good there as well.

Any ideas of what I could be missing before I replace the OEM alternator with a 1-wire?

Its hard to find a good Voltage regulator now days.... I had the sane problem and had to get about 6 of them before i found a good one... Over charging has always been an issue with Chrysler Products. That is why folks go with the change over. M880 is a pretty good here on the site with those. If he reads this i'm sure he will jump in with a few suggestions. But nothing wrong with going with the one wire...

Not sure if you have read the MAD stuff yet... But it has some good overview...
