5.7 Hemi motor flaw ?

I don't know the particulars So ??? Came across this video on You Tube, one of the replies.
Broken timing chain ?

The issue seems to be limited to to Challengers with 3.06 rear gears, VVT and MDS. The 3.06 gear ratio is a Challenger R/T exclusive ratio and it seems this failure happens at highway speeds (60-70 mph) with MDS active. This sets up a harmonic in the chain that eats away the tensioner liner and results in failure. Dodge knows there is an issue, but remains steadfast on denying it and dealerships in most cases deny the warranty or that there is an issue, but tell perspective buyers that question the issue, to "drive it in AutoStick mode and there will be no problems". As a mechanic for 25 years and an owner of a 2011 Challenger R/T bought new, I have had the intake leaking and was refused service to fix it without paying for it. So I revoked my warranty and told the dealer to park it in his *** and I would take care of it. Now, I'm fixing to change the timing chain with updated parts soon and hope to video the results for ALL to see as to what I find before it breaks. 27k on motor now so it should be right at the failure line given the average miles on most TC failures.

Funny, my mechanic told me the same thing about the 5.7s. Didn't go into the details though.

I asked him to check over the used 2011 Chally before I bought it, and all he said was "good thing you got the 3.6". Apparently two other club members with new 5.7's needed repairs and the following week he was swapping out another one - that one wasn't a Challenger though.

Lynn... I think the common part that breaks is mostly the chains... I under stand there now using an updated/redesigned chain set..
I do know if it lets go, It will use up the whole short block.. Meaning, after the chain breaks it takes the pistons with it most of the time....
I think Jegs has a set for sale....

It's an interference motor so it wipes out the valves if nothing else. SO some one considering the swap may want tho update the timing chain.
Have you seen pictures of the new Corvette direct injection motor When blown up on a dyno??? Looks like a real nightmare !!!

Lynn.. I have seen the video, I'm not sold on what that whole deal is about just yep...
Hope you get yours straightened out.....
The way those 5.7 hit the pistons, its my understanding it mashes the edge of the piston into the cylinder wall... That takes care of the ringland also? And if the rotater keeps going around, it sure plays hell with the cylinder walls...

If it is similar to the 2007 3.6 V-6....
Make sure you make the timing service interval on that one also... I already got stung on that one on a 300C Touring.. Long story short...
