can i put a 727 trans on a 360 engine
i recently bought a 1966 dodge dart gt witch is falling appart, so i want too put the 360 into my 1966 dodge charger that has a 318 with a 727 trans. is this easily done without a hassle. i also have a different 727 that came off of a 74 chrysler with a 440 are these the same transmissions or do i have too use the one off the 318?

Welcome aboard!
Small block and big blocks can both use 727s, but the bell housing size is different. So, I'm pretty sure the 318 will fit the 360, but the 440 won't. There are a lot of guys here who know more than I do about part interchangeability.

thanks for the welcome mopar men and women dont get me wrong im kind of a mut when it comes too cars my dad got me into chevys that why i got a 69 elcamino i have a 60 cadillac im into fords as well but i still love the good old mopars.
cool that helps me out alot. ive had the charger for about 5 yrs my and my dad did all the body work and paint in my garage and the sad thing is is that every time i drove the car i would break down and it really got on my nerves so hopefully it will work for the better.
another question when the transmission shifts it kinda revs up a little bit before it shifts can this be a shifter linkage out of adjustment or does the trans need a rebuild?

You go and stick a 318 torque converter behind a 360 or vice versa..and you will shake like no tomorrow...and take out your main bearings....You need a small block 727 as well...they are longer than 904 so you need shorter drive shaft..

Like J said, you'll need the flex plate or like what 1966sportfury said, a weighted converter.
He said he had a 727 behind the 318, which is a small block 727. But you are right about the drive shaft.
If you run the incorrect converter for even a short period of time, the shake will take out the main bearings...hard on them.

Not all of them. From what I understand the earlier 318s (poly 318) are different than the later 318s (318 LA). A 360 LA motor will bolt in place of a 318 LA but not a poly 318. I know there are a handful of member on here that know about the poly 318 motors better than I. I believe most came in front of a push button automatic transmission.

both my polly equipped car has the shifter on the floor, (console)
Hmmm.... I'm new to the mopar world as well!!! i got a 360 rebuilt and a 383 needing rebuilt sitting around I was going to try and mate the 360 to my 727 but reading this I guess I should check and see if I have a bb 727 of small block.....

66 Charger could have a wide block 318 IF so you need a LA318/360 trans
If it is an LA 318 what you need to install the 360 is a B&M flex plate for the 360 to your 727. The 440 727 trans will NOT fit a 360. Slipping ? Could be band adjustment? I would start by making sure the transmission kickdown linkage is adjusted properly
