I'm thinking of puting an fuel injecton unit on by '79 360. What would be a good one to use?

 

Do you want a MPFI or a TBI setup? MPFI is great but TBI is very simple and is just as reliable.

Holley puts out a few universal kits. Take a look on Summit Racing's website.

Holley makes some pretty good kits but when I looked at the prices, WOW.

If you have the time you could always install a TBI setup from a later Dodge truck onto yours. maybe find one that is in a wreck for cheap and pull the setup with wiring out and install it onto yours.

 

How hard would that be?

 

if you find a wrecked ram or even a dakota r/t - grab the whole drivetrain, wiring harness and computer. hell, you can even upgrade with a new airconditioner while you're at it...

 

Will the intake fit my LA 318?

 

The engine would probably be the cheapest part of the equation. Might just want to start with a magnum 5.9 to insure compatibility.

 

Its not really cheap but look at professional products power jection. It is a tbI but looks like a carb, a few simple wires for install and it tunes itself.

that i dont know but even if it bolts up getting it to run is a different story. considering the older engines don't have the provisions for all the sensors, etc that ar required to have everything run smoothly. thats why if you get the whole drivetrain including computer controlled automatic od transmission - hook everything up... old car with new car reliability...
mopar performance even has a performance computer to wake up the engine even more

 

K.I.S.S STAY CARB'D!!!!!!!! My son and I just brought an 89 RamCharger home from Vegas; with a 360 and that blasted crappy TBI! I am so ready to back-fit it with a TQ! TBI SUCKS! I had it in my 88 D 100 2WD shortbed with a 318 and could NOT get over 8 MPG! I wound up selling the truck since I was so tired of sppending money to improve that number! my current 83 (also 318 but 4 BBL Carter AFB) 3/4 ton gets 14 pretty easily; this Ramcharger gets 6 to 7 MPG so far and burns so freaking rich that it burns my eyes when I open a window.

 

Ditto, don't waste your money on EFI, the improvements in drivability and economy will not outweigh the price and trouble of getting it installed.

For much less money you can get an intake manifold, a new carburetor, and a good ignition/distributor system.

I used to have a 1980 Dodge St Regis highway patrol car with the E58 (HP) 360 in it. The engine came equipped with a smog Thermoquad carb and the crappy electronic lean burn nonsense. The car was a mediocre performer which used a lot of gas and made less-than-spectacular horsepower.

The first thing I did was scrapped the electronic lean-burn system. I got an older vacuum advance electronic distributor and ignition control box out of an older Duster. The conversion took me about 30 minutes to complete. I got rid of the factory intake and installed a used Edelbrock performer along with an earlier model Thermoquad that I salvaged from a big New Yorker. I then swapped the 360 heads for a set of 340 2.02 heads that I had sitting in my garage, and last but not least, I installed an Erson RV15 cam.

The improvement in power (and gas mileage) was amazing, and with the intake manifold painted to match the rest of the engine, I was actually able to get the car smog tested when I registered it in California. The car passed the visual and sniffer test without a problem. The total cost for all of this (including the cylinder heads) was less than $500.

 

I have a 79 dodge d300 with a 360/2bbl motor.
carb is a 1975 holley 2245 2bbl carb ive tuned it so it will run and ignition is timed but i have low vaccum according to the vacuum gauge. Plus it is a pain to start and the exhaust smell will peal a n onion! Id like to do fuel injection but want to retain my stock ignition. Any advice or suggestions?

The other side of the equation is the fuel system that would work for my truck. I have a dual tank setup with booster pumps on each so that gives me 3 options. 1. I can put in tank pumps on both but i would have to plumb returns for both tanks and rewire the truck. 2. Put a high psi inline pump near the motor. Id still need to plumb returns for both tanks. 3. I can make a sump kit and have the return go to it. Not sure witch way to go. Any help is much appreciated . Thanks!

That's an old recommendation, I'd good with the Holley Sniper now.....
