This is the 1949 Plymouth Woodie Wagon I just bought. I got it home May 1st and have been tinkering with it. Have not tried to start it yet. I need to do some "pre-startup" preparations first.
Nice!
What are you starting out with under the hood?
It has the original 6 cylinder engine which I will get running and keep it in the car. I am not planning any modifications being it is such an unusual
car, IMO, keeping it original is best.
I can definitely appreciate the amount of work it takes to keep a classic within it's original specs!
There is a big role cars like this play in helping to inspire the next generation of enthusiasts, hobbyists and professionals. Especially now when it seems like "quiet, calm, thoughtless" cars dominate the highway. I like to think that projects like yours here helps to show people how cars can be special.
I would like to thank everyone that has commented on my car. Your words of encouragement and your acceptance of a car that may not "fit in" with the majority in this Forum means a lot to me.
I will post more as I move ahead.
Thanks,
Joe
I don't know why you don't think it doesn't fit, I think most of us would love to own it. 🙂 I'm interested how it looks under the hood and what your doing to get it going. I hope you will come back with pictures and information.

The only reason I made that statement is because as I read through the Forum most of the discussion(s) is about more modern cars. But if the members here are anything like me, and I am sure they are, they will appreciate any car for what it is - and I have seen that by the responses so far.
As far as what it looks like under the hood I posted a pic (or 2) of what I have of it so far.
What I am doing to get it going is drained the oil and will be dropping the pan - I stuck my finger into the drain hole and there is a lot of sludge in there. I will clean the pickup screen and I plan on removing the side valve covers and cleaning the sludge from that area as well.
The next step(s) after cleaning up the pan, etc. is to squirt some oil into the cylinders and turn the engine over by hand - it is free and not locked up.
Remove the carb and disassemble it and clean it out. I may have to rebuild it.
From what I was told, before I bought it, the car was started but wasn't running all too well.
Then the gas tank will need to be drained and boiled/lined.
Then brakes redone, etc.....
