making hp with my 383

ok you would have read about me raving on about my 383 ute , well my mates & i have come to the conclusion that i have to stop pissing about making little gains & just be happy with what i've got now . & save me & put my indy heads on & be done with it . ok the plan is to make 500-550 hp & about 500 ish lbs of torque . my 440 ez heads flow 305 cfm @ .600 lift , they have the long valves , so we want to use around .620 total lift by using a cam that has around 570-585 th lift & 257-265 degrees duration @ .050 . & using 1.6 ratio roller rockers to make up the extra lift without the duration to keep the rpms down around 6700 ish . we want to use 11-11.2 x 1 compresson ratio (we have 98 octane pump gas over here ) i will need new custom 4 into 1 extractors (not sure on header diamater 1 7/8 or 2 in & collector size ) & 3in exhaust . the parts i have are new 750 holley, holley street dominator single plane manifold , good oil system 1/2 pick up , 7qt pan , windage tray , indy 440 ez heads with 1.19 x 1.81 valves 75cc closed chamber, ss 1.6 ratio roller rockers , dual row timing chain ,ele dizzy & msd 6 al & blaster coil , felpro gasket kit arp rod bolts , stock crank & rods ( will get them shot peened & re sized ) 2x elec fans ......
bits i need .... kb hyputectic pistons & rings light hone, notch block for valves , maybe deck block & heads, alloy w/pump & housing cam & lifters , head studs full groove bearings & cam , cam button , good blancer , indy valley plate & gasket, 2in carb spacer , longer push rods , well any thoughts & tips guys appreciated . am i on the right track , i will get another center sec for my 8 3/4 i have 26x8.5 slicks . gears ? maybe 4.11 /4.3

I got so lost in all those numbers. Hahaha

What are you trying to do? Get 500 to 550 HP and 500 torque out of your 383? That should be pretty easy. I built a 383 a few years back that was pushing about 575 HP and 525 torque. I had bored the motor .030 over, got a set of 10.5:1 compression pistons, edelbrock 88cc heads, edelbrock 800 carb, holley street dominator intake, etc. I the only thing I can not remember is which cam I got for it. All I can remember is that it was a purple shaft cam.

That sounds like a pretty small tire to me as well. Can't you get some larger wheelwells and fab them into the bed to get a larger tire on there? If not, I would not go with 4.10 to 4.3 gears. That is too steep for tires that size with that kind of power. I would not go any higher than 3.92 or so.

I would stick with the 3.9 gears and 28x9 slicks.

Like I said though, I can't remember which cam I got for the motor, it seems so long go and I have none of the paperwork. I remember the numbers being around what I said but am not positive as I gave the dyno paperwork away with the truck. I ran 1 7/8 primary tub headers into a 3" exhuast (although I wish I went with 3.5"). I had the motor in an 85 dodge D100. I ended up having to sell it though after I picked up my j10.

the guy at indy cyl heads said to use the mopar 557 lift , 252 degrees duration @ .050 , 110 lob/ separation
with 1.6 ratio rockers thats .594 lift .
but he says to use dual 2 1/2 in x pipe exhaust . he should know but i think thats not enough ? he also says not to use stock rods .

He's right about the rods. You should probably look into getting a set of eagle "I" beam rods.

As for the exhaust, The 2.5" x will help to even out pressure between the two sides and give you a lot of low end power. A 3" exhaust will give you more mid to high end power.
