Quote: i was helping an older guy i know change a cam in his 360. what he does is leave the intake off and leave the oil plug out. he keeps dumping oil on the cam and in the rockers and turns the crank by hand without the timing chain on it. he says hes been doing this for many years and has never had a problem. (he changed the cam for more torque)
this is his break in procedure?

I was watching "Two Guys Garage" on the weekend and they were talking about the tappet problem with regards to them f*ckin' up. They were saying that it wasn't so much that the oil was the problem as it was the "offshore" aka chinese lifters that were made cheaply. Back to you 67.

well, most chinese products are not of good quality to begin with
but, the lifters that went bad on my car were made in the U.S.A.
also, most machine shops have confirmed the zinc problem
back to you polara

lucas also makes an engine break in additive with zinc in it. I'm assistant manager at a main counter napa and we sell lots of the crap to mostly the circle track drivers and ppl rebuilding older cars. i've heard good things about the stuff. alot of these guys put it in every time they change the oil.
