Steering box

So I just ordered the seals and gasket kit to rebuild the steering box on the Coronet, have any of you done this before and is it a pain in the AZZ. I think getting the steering box out is going to be the hard part.

Seals and gaskets are easy enough to do.... But if you have to get into Bushings and Honing... That can get a little challenging... But if it's just by-passing or seeping... The basic overhaul with seals and gaskets are easy enough... Just keep your hands out of the spokes of the steering wheel on the start up... The centering adjustment can be tricky.... Make small movements with the adjustment... A little goes a looong way. If it goes full pressure left? It will try to rip your arm off !!!! Careful....

You may need to raise the engine up a few inches.

The power steering box came out pretty easy, I just unbolted the headers and took them out, I put the Manuel steering box , And drove the car around the block and I was very suprised on how easy it was to steer, I thought it was going to be a lot harder. So now just doing some little things here and their on it while it rains.

It is amazing how easy these cars are to drive with manual steering. My grandmother had a 65 until 1975 when she was 71 years old. She bought a 75 Gutlass (really) with a 260 new that year, and it did have power steering. She had never had a PS car before.
