You do not have it seated in far enough. Keep rotating it while pushing up.

Basically place the palm of your right hand in the 4-5 o'clock position and rotate it counter clockwise. At the same time, with the same hend, give the torque convertor an upward push. This will help to seat the torque convertor on the input shaft of the tranny.

There are two sizes of flex plates, and the flex plate has one hole that is not symetrical to the other three. By having that one hole off just a little from the others, it makes the torque convertor line up in only one way, keeping the balance where it needs to be. I THINK the externally balanced convertors changed that, and they are all symetrical holes. Anyone sure on that one?

If the holes line up too short or too long, then you need the other size flex plate.

What BuckNeccid said and also the bolt holes will line up only one way. On our race cars we put the first bolt in loose and then turn the engine over and try the second bolt. It usually fits and the third is the real test... If it fits then go on to the fourth. When all are in finger tight go back to number one remove it and locktite it and tighten to spects... Then take a spray bomb and spray a small amount of paint on one of the bolts and flexplate. Next time just rotate the converter to the paint and then install the bolts right the first time....

When trying to start my car the motor doesn't want to turn over and sucks a lot of juice and the starter gets hot but the car don't start...I loose all lighting in the dash and I just put new big wires on it.... when I unbolt the flex plate from the torque converter the starter spins the torque converter freely and didn't really get warm...what might be the problem...I have a 66 dodge coronet 440 plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!
