Sorry for not posting in awhile. Those of you following the thread know I have experienced many delays during this two year process. Not much happened since last posts. Shop needed to bring in some quick work to keep the flow going and I'm working as much as possible to not get too far behind on paying for this. A little ahead at the moment, but will be behind when it's completed...not too much hopefully. Anyhow...plan is...although it can change on a dime...to have the engine painted next week and then remounted back to the completed frame. Cab has to go back on frame for a little finishing of metal where it joins frame. Then off with the cab and finish it up to get it ready for painting. Only bodywork left to do is on cab, front fenders, hood and rad support. All other pieces have been finished and primed for paint. We discussed paint this morning and are going with a green that matches the gauges as closely as possible. Gauges are called British Military Green, but not really sure if that's true. We'll match as close as possible in any event. We also plan to paint the engine the same green. The original six cylinder engines in these things were a silverfish colour. Added a couple of pics of a couple of jobs shop has been working on.

Well, more delays as usual. Shop has been swamped and they still can't find a qualified body guy. Truck finally came back into main shop today. Engine is painted and ready to go back on frame possibly tomorrow. We decided to paint it a machinery gray rather than green. Original engines were a silver colour from what I can tell. New shocks being ordered tomorrow. They were doing some mudding on the cab today. It has to go back on frame as there is a little metal to add on the bottom. Then off it comes and bodywork finished up on cab. Getting there...more slowly than I had hoped, but it is what it is.

Metalwork on cab all finished. Cab and front fenders aligned before final pull apart. Work on prepping the fenders started this morning. Bodywork on cab ongoing. Special coating for cab floor interior and underneath, interior and underneath box has been ordered. Lol..over a grand just for that. Things are moving along. Keeping my fingers crossed there aren't too many lengthy delays.

Been awhile...sorry for not keeping people up to date. My ex employer talked me into taking a short term contract so I was kind of busy. Lol...good to make money though to push this across the finish line. Lots of delays again, which allowed me to top up the war chest. The shop just can't seem to find qualified help. Had a couple of guys lined up...but one had an issue keeping himself sober and the other guy had been hurt in a previous job and shop won't take him on unless they can get a letter from Worker's Compensation Board stating he is fit for work. Add to that, the owner has to go in for surgery in a couple of weeks. The trials of a small city. Lots of work here for qualified people. Anyway, progress has been slow but is happening. Front fenders went into booth this morning for a coating of Slick Sand. Joins the doors, box and running boards which have been done. Rear fenders should be coated by Monday or Tuesday and then it's back on the cab, hood and rad mount. We'll see how it goes. Could be up to 50 hours of work on the cab alone. It's frustrating being so close after all this time, but it is what it is. I guess it'll make driving this rig that much more satisfying in the end. There's a real market for this kind of work here, as I'm sure there is in many places. But there just aren't enough qualified people in the pipeline. I'll keep you posted.

I can be just as frustrating working on a big project like yours. The last one I did was a 55 Chevy and I had 1800 plus hours in, even the kolor, kandy pearl black cherry took seventeen trips around the car.

No doubt. The guy who has done the most work on it gets frustrated at times as he wants to finish it. But ever since Dennis got hurt and not being able to replace him...well...it just slowed everything down. The shop needs to keep their steady customers satisfied. I get that...that's their bread and butter. But we're getting there...and I never complain to them. They're doing the best they can given the manpower equation. This project has been new ground for them. They've been getting lots of inquiries about other potential projects. They have to turn them down just because they can't find the needed staff.

Update. Well, as usual, things slowed down as shop got busy. So mine would get worked on here and there as time permitted. The shop has been trying to find qualified help but without luck. But great news today. They talked Dennis into coming back just to help get the cab finished. Still difficult for him even though he is used to his new leg now. So full time return still appears to be out of the question. But he really wanted to get back to help finish this up. With any luck, it may be ready to get Slick Sand applied next week sometime. Everything else is already coated. Then it's on to final sanding before primer. Can't say for sure, but I'm hoping they can convince him to stay on for the final sanding as that will help the shop out...and of course, me.

Now is where I find customers getting impatient , sometimes parts need to be blocked and reprimed a time or two to get just right and all the guy that owns it can see is the finish line.
