I have a (near as I can tell) 1969 440 BB with a steel crank drilled for a manual tranny heads and a factory cast intake man. How can I tell what I really have? and what it is worth? and would any body want it?
Some cranks can be "hard to tell" Some were drilled a little undersize and a little shallow. You used to be able to buy undersize pilot bushings, and guys used to cut, say, 3/8" or so off the gearbox shaft so the shaft would not bottom
There's no way that I know of to tell from a casting no. whether it's a stick or auto engine. If it's complete, look for kickdown brackets/ linkage on the intake/ carb

casting number on the heads is 2843906-6 the crank piolt bushing hole is about 1 1/4" deep I also found the bell hsg for it, and the casting number on the block is 2536430-3 and the intake has a date in cast of 1-24-69 and number of 2806178
not completely sure on the price
the block probably needs machine work, along with the heads
if the heads need to be milled, then so does the intake
3-6 hundred sounds around the zone to me
