Hi! I put together engine and transmission with a new sfi flexplate and new breakaway Tci converter 2400 stall . I went under the car and start to screw the Arp 5/16 bolts in and see the holes in the flexplate is drilled for the 7/16 bolts, i have not give it a thought until now. I screw all 4 bolts in loose and turn the converter in the motor spinning direction so the holes go against the screws and tighten it down to torque specs with loctite of course, i think this would work right? Beacuse the engine just go in one direction and i turn the converter so the holes go against the bolts and torque it down there. What do you people think?

 

Never really ran into a problem like that.. Just center and tighten for me...

 

If the bolts have a short shoulder on them I would want the proper diameter hole.

 

Thanks for the answer, i have the ARP bolt 5/16, its a thin head for clearance but the head diameter is 5/8 i belive so its cover the hole, im just worried it start to loosen the bolt or something if it starts to move. Maybe its best to loosen the converter bolts and the bellhousing bolt, jack under the transmission and screw in 2 threaded rods in the 2 lowest bellhousing bolt holes and drag the transmission back a bit so i get room to change the flexplate, than i dont need to have this in my mind all the time.

 

I think everyone has had this happen once after that you check the converter, flexplate fitment including bolts. I seem to remember gas welding flat washers on a flexplate for the smaller bolts one night probably 35 years ago. Lol

 

I have just swapped a 87' TF727 from a ramcharger to my 75' w100 and ran into this problem. I'm not sure what to do. my flex plate doesn't line up and the bolt holes on the new 10" plate I need are larger then my bolts in the TC. Any suggestions would be great.
