need advice on my 318 plz

hi guys....still working on getting my '67 sport fury on the road....its goin slowly but i think i'm about there. i've replaced the heads(stock remans)...fuel tank..fuel lines/hoses...lifters...pushrods...went through 3 mechanical fuel pumps and finally went with an electric pump...got rid of the points dizzy and put on a reman 2bbl carb....plugs...wires...cap..rotor...filters..ect.

now my problem is with the dizzy or the carb...cant figure out which. i think i got the timing right and the carb set right...but it only runs good while the vaccuum advance is not plugged into the carb..soon as we plug in the vacuum advance it dies.
not quite sure where to go from here so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

from what i've been told...one of the vacuum ports on the carb should be a metering port that ups the vacuum as i rev the engine..but when i hook up a vacuum gauge to the ports they all seem to be pulling the same amount of vacuum from start up to idle and while revving. could it be that the carb i got is faulty?
also the distributor and module i am using are off a 1978 fury with a 318...the dizzy is a reman and the module is brand new.

i posted this in the do it yerself section but got no responses...hoping maybe posting it here will get a response or two 'cause i'm stumped.

yes, one of the vacuum ports should have "no" vacuum when the engine is idling. then as soon as the throttle is moved a bit, thats when the vacuum starts. Obviously, if the mthrottle plates are open too far during idling. the vac will be in play to the dizzy. Tell ya what, dont worry bout the vac. adv. for now. just get the car idling with the highest vac [buy a cheap vac gauge at parts chain] at the correct idle speed [tach/dwell meter] and with the correct base timing. Dont know it? try 8 degrees before TDC. On the carb, adjust idle mix and throttle opening screws. Again, youll want to have the highest vac reading with the correct idle speed. Set initial timing to 8 with timing light, no vac advance (plugged). Make quadruple sure youre firing order is right. 18436572 and you got good spark.

ty for the help....the timing is set at 10 degress btdc and i believe i got the carb adjusted correctly and the firing order is correct...but i think it does seem to idle kinda high..so i think ill try turning down the idle like u suggested and maybe backing the timing down a little and see where that gets me. i'll let ya know and thanks again for the advice.
