318 timing set q

I have a 1978 dodge ram 5.2 that I am putting 1985 5.2 motor in, while adding the fuel pump cam I noticed the timing chain had about ½+ inch slack in it, so I ordered a new set and wouldn’t ya know it also has about a ½ inch slack in it. it was ordered on line (cloyes). Is this normal or should it be tight?

I've seen motors that have been line bored have slack in new timing chains, not sure what you can do about it.

It should be tight, Cloyes catalog says center dimension is 6.125", adding -5 to P/N is .005" shorter, -10 is .010" shorter.

Was this ordered on line from Cloyes or someone on line selling Cloyes 2nds? Hopefully you have recourse.
