416 TICKING QUESTION
I have been struggling with this for a few months. First some history. 1969 barracuda. Had a 340 with forged pistons, balanced, ported, nos everything. ran great. didn't use the nos for 5 years. finally hooked it up and ran it a little until a head gasket started leaking. so tear it down and find flat lobe on cam also.(lost that at start up 5 years ago but adjusted the noise out and didn't realize it) so time for a stroker. sent it to a machine shop. scat stroker kit with forged pistons and h beam rods, bigger cam(.500 lift total with the 1.6 rockers). milled the heads i think 10 thousands if i remember what the shop said. put studs in for the heads. 3 angle valve job. new springs. everything is the same from the previous motor except the stroker kit and milled heads(heads are 340 ta heads converted to regular 1.6 roller rockers) now for the problem. i have a terrible rattle in the lifters(i think). it sounds like solid lifters but slightly worse. i have tried everything. the pushrods were hitting the underside of rockers slightly so new smith pushrods and still same problem. have tried multiple adjustments with the lifters(1/2 turn to 1.5 turns and no difference. 50 pounds of oil pressure. the part i really can't figure out is the fact that everything is the same from the other motor and it didn't tick. the ticking is all 16 not 8 like it would be pistons hitting or something. i know it is a lot to take in but i am really looking for suggestions

yes lots of oil. mopar purple shaft and lifter kit. i have pulled the lifters and they are pumped up. no coil bind that i can tell and wouldn't that bend a pushrod. i have tried all of the common stuff. i am just wondering if there is anything the machine shop could have done internally that i can't think of. i have talked to multiple engine gurus and nothing.

And, you said you had one cam wiped out before, you did use proper cam break-in procedure? Or of course you could have gotten the wrong length of push rods. And no you can not adjust 'out' a flat lobe on a cam, quieten it down maybe but its not a 'fix', you still have a valve NOT opening.....

Yep checked to make sure the rocker tips weren't rolling off the valves. as stated before got new proper length pushrods they were a little to long to start. it runs to well to have a valve not opening. it is not missing just sounds like solid lifters. the intake manifold leaked out the back because the machine shop didn't seal it correctly so i have pulled the manifold and the cam looked perfect. it sounds like 16 ticking not 1 or 2 so i don't think it is a cam lobe
thanks for all of the suggestions please keep them coming. i think i will check for spring bind. it has been 6-8 months since i have messed with it so i am trying to remember all i did.
