Carb upgrade - 2 barrel to 4 barrel

I am thinking of ugrading my carb from the standard 2 barrel Carter carb on my 68 Dodge Polara (383), I feel it just needs a bit more power, any recommendations on the best 4 barrel carb brand size to go for holley, carter etc, been having a look and it seems theres many options..... the engine is the stock factory 383 with original 2 barrel carter carb, any help/advice would be great, cheers

600 CFM is probably the biggest you want to go. Get you an Eddy Performer or RPM Performer intake.

OK will check it out, thanks for the help

Just had a quick look, any ideas which model is best fit, seems theres a few choices, looking at the 14064,1405 & 1406

14064 - This is the "shiny" version of the 1406
1405 - This is the basic that Edlebrock puts out and has a manual choke
1406 - This is the same as 1405 except instead of a manual choke, it is electric.

If this is a show only car, spend the money on 14064. If this is a car that you drive around then I'd go with the 1406, wire in the electric choke and call it good. Also go with a Edlebrock Performer intake and a new air filter kit. This will help build some power. After that think about going with a set of headers to help exhaust all that fuel and air your new intake system will want to feed the motor.

OK thanks for that info, looks like a 1406 will be best fit, as its defintely not a show car :-)

yeaaaaaaaaah, you won't see too much power out of this, but i'm sure something. oddly, the biggest power gain i got out of my '68 was removing the mechanical fan in favor of an elec job. i could feeeeeel that modification in the driver seat.
