Dual Edelbrock 500cfm carb tuning
Dual Edelbrock 500cfm carb tuning
Hey guys I posted a while back I was having problems getting my car to idle turned out just needed to rebuild my carbs which I did. Running a lot better. I知 trying to dial in my carbs with a vacuum gauge and am a little confused maybe you guys can help.
I値l give you everything I know about the motor which is it痴 a 1967 440 with 915 heads on it intake valves are 2.14intake and 1.810exhaust has roller flat tappet cam not sure the size and I know it helps in tuning it trying to figure out how to get the specs Mallory distributor and coil and dual Edelbrock 500 carbs on Edelbrock manifold.
The problem I知 having is when tuning the carbs from everything I looked at you have to do them the same as in if you change one then you must change the other. So when I have the vacuum gauge hooked up it read like 13 of vacuum if I Richen up the mixture it will go higher and idle will increase so then I値l back the idle down and continue. This is where I知 getting confused the idle gets smoother and seems to idle much better but when I driving it feels down on power and also smells a bit rich on the exhaust. Any input would be greatly appreciated sorry for the very long post but wanted to give all info. Also before I started tuning carbs where at Edelbrock specs.

Did ya talk to John at JCS?
13" of vac means a mild cam, and 1000 cfm is still on the high side.
If you google mopar dist vac advance, you'll see arguments for both ported and full manifold vac to the dist.
I've run them both ways and with no vac at all, and ON THE STREET the difference was less than most people want you to believe.
BUT... it's a fairly easy test to do and readily reversible.
Still have a feeling you're over-carbed.
I don't do Eddy carbs, but on a Holley, the next thing to try would be down-sizing the jets.

I don稚 know John I知 fairly new to this forum I feel like it may be a little rich the spark plug looks good it痴 not black or wet also the motor is .30 over and what not I want to put a fi tech fuel injection on it over the winter but I知 just trying to get it ok for the rest of the summer also have a hard time getting a timing light on it as the alternator is right in the way

You're right the plug looks good.
You can google JCS Automotive on Rt 109 in W. Babylon.
It's just better to have a pair of eyes see it in person.
There could be a few things going on, and right now I'd be just guessing.
LOL. might need a longer belt of the alternator.
