Engine block deck surface

What would be good to get all of the old gasket off of the block side. My father in law said to use a whiz wheel, I was using a razor to scrap it off but I know it has to be very clean before putting on the new head gaskets and heads which were redone.

I have seen a lot of guys use 220 grit sand paper with a sanding block to clean gasket surfaces after cleaning the bulk of the gaskets off the way you are doing it... With a scraper or razor blade....Bill

Take it to machine shop and have the block decked .010 to square it up and get the proper gasket surface for your new head gaskets.
I would use an 80 grit wet/dry and then a thorough cleaning
