Question high idle when hot

my 73 340 duster has a 1407 edelbrock carb on it. car idle fine when 1st started and cold, but as I drive it and it gets hot , it seems to idle high when stopped at a light or whatever, mild build , headers , wiend manifold,by the way no choke on it. any ideas ? thanks

first thing to try. check for a vacuum leek. 1. with engine running spray some WD-40 around the base. if it has a leek the RPM will change. and you might hear the WD-40 going in to the carb. 2. get a small vacuum hose. put one end in your ear. pass the other end over the base edges. if it has a leek you will hear it.

it just came to me. you may have put a square bore carb on a spread bore manifold. this will make the engine VERY lean. if this is the case you might need a specl steel plate with a specl gasket on the bottom that comes with the plate. and a regular gasket between the carb and specl plate. edelbrock has the plate you need. EDIT: i just checked a wiend 8007 is a spread bore manifold....... a 8022 is a square bore manifold.

I agree... Lean or vacuum leak....
Might try opening up the Idle Air mixture screws 2 more turns and see if that helps..

just went for a ride its 85 degrees here. I noticed when I come up to a light , the idle is high , not real bad , but definitly noticeable. while stopped I give the throttle a quick blip and the idle returns to normal. its almost when you are cold , with a choke and idling high when you start up, then you kick her down after a warm up and you are @ normal idle. so maybe a carb linkage slight adjustment ?? edelbrock 1407 with no choke ------ not finding any vac leaks. have not tryed the idle air mix screw yet, just want to rule out any other small adjustments

i if it is lean at idle, as it is idling cover the air horn with your hand, it will increase RPM, if it is lean.

Check the mixture screws should be at least 2 turns out. Make sure the return spring has enough tension
