Has anyone tried ditching oil pan gaskets and just using an RTV sealant to seal the bottom end. I run a deep pan and a windage tray on my 440 and last rebuild I noticed some squishing of one of the oil pan gaskets out the side of the pan. Although I use RTV on the gaskets, I still experienced a leak. I'll be pulling the motor again to fix it, but wondered if anyone has successfully tried just using an RTV sealant without gaskets.

I've always used an adhesive and put the gaskets on the the windage tray and trv on the corners and timing cover.

RTV can take out your motor givin the chance, I've seen it happen.

Summit sells a combination pan gasket/windage tray . Its made with a rubber like material that's designed to reuse. It solved my leak problem.

Thanks for the info. I like both the windage trays with the molded in rubber seal. Been using the same windage tray for the past 20 years and hadn't seen these before. I think my problem was one of the gaskets I used. I have a habit of stockpiling stuff like gaskets when I can find a good deal on them at swap meets. Have no idea what make gaskets these were, but never experienced a problem with a pan gasket starting to squish out the sides before. Thanks for the info.
