Timing chain sprocket stuck /6

Hi Guys,

I recently set out to replace the timing chain on my 72 dodge coronet with a 225 cui slant six. All went well, untill i got to the sprocket on the crankshaft. this will absolutely not come off! I tried pullers with 2 and 3 arms. Both pullers had the arms bent after. Then i tried together with a friend to pry it of with some pretty long pry bars, but absolutely no movement! Does anybody have a suggestion on how to get this thing off?

regards. Willem

put the three jaw back on it... Shock the sprocket with a drift punch and a big hammer.... Loosen and reset the puller and do the same thing over again.. Should work loose after a few trys..
Use a little good lube like Zep45.

Thanks Bob, i'll get on that as soon as i can and let you know the results!

Also another thing: I recently bought a camshaft bolt for when i need to reassemble, but i can't get the camshaft bolt to go all the way in. Would you have a tip for this too?

regards. Willem

Did you mall the treads trying to pull the gear? It happens.

Recheck the threads on both... The cam is not drilled that deep.
7/16-14.... ? is the bolt size?

Is it safe to stick the sandblaster in there?

Better to us a bottoming tap to clean it... Sandblaster is not going to fix and thread issues...

Did exactly what you said, i shocked the socket with a drift punch a couple of times and it came straight off. Thanks bob!

One funny thing though, i found a gasket between the sprocket and the part behind it. Is that supposed to be there?

No.... But that might raise a little concern.. Keep a eye open for a possible miss alignment issue, when you put it back together.
