904 Bellhousing

Hi all i am new to Mopar but have recently bought a 1969 318 engine(out of a Valiant in the UK but not shipped it yet) to fit in an 1960 Studebaker i bought recently that has no engine. With the 318 i will also have to upgrade the drive train so i am looking at fitting a Torqueflite 904 , i am in Spain so do not have a lot of spares options and have to go with what i find locally.

Here in Spain they built Chrysler 180's back in the 70's so there are a fair amount of spares still around for these and i have found a Torqueflite 904 with the rear axle as well from a 2L . The trans number is P 3681847X 4977 7936 which dates it as a 1.8 1974 Simca but i guess Torqueflites are the same regardless of the engine its coupled to so i assume it should be ok but the problem is the bellhousing looks like it probably won't fit to a 318.

Can the bellhousing be changed with the 904 as it looks all like all one casing

Well, no to the bellhousing being able to be changed, and no that doesn't look like it would fit the 318. Just out of my curiosity what motor would have been in front of that transmission?

If i got a 318 bell housing and fitted all transmission internals from the Torqueflite i have available would that work?

Shipping a bell housing wouldn't be too expensive just when it comes to a complete trans the shipping cost if not in Europe would cost 2-3 times what i'd be paying for the trans.

in that case buy a rebuild 904 with a converter, I wouldn't have juck parts sent and pay big shipping on them.

The easiest option would be to buy from the US but shipping and customs fees would be about $800-1000 then 21% import tax added to the sales invoice gets to be a rather expensive transmission and any warranty would be useless due to the expense of sending it back, i thought to buy and ship a 318 bell housing would be cheapest way if the internal parts are compatible.

Thanks for the weblink , i am asking around in Europe but seems the 727 is the easy one to find. In Spain there are a few Chrysler 904 trans available and also the manual 4/5 speed which i may still consider as it looks to have a removable bellhousing but they are all from the Simca/Chrysler 2 litre 180 so not a straight fit on a 318, it seemed to make sense to try if i can use these first but will keep searching .
