Oil level in the gearbox? -59 Chrysler New Yorker

Anyone know how much oil goes into the gearbox? I have to change the fluid pan gasket in the gearbox.

Gearbox? You mean differential or auto trans fluid?

Yes, auto trans fluid.. In Sweden the name is Transmissionsolja (transmission oil)..
My pan in the transmission is leaking so I have a new gasket for it..

The pan without draining the torque converter holds about 4 quarts. After filling it with 4 quarts run the engine in neutral until hot and check the fluid via dipstick.

No questions are stupid. When putting the pan gasket on "do not use any gasket sealers such as silicone or any material other than the gasket." Do not overtighten. You can always go back after driving it for a short time and retighten. Those transmissions are hard shifting and go into gear abruptly, but they are darn near bullet proof.
