Rear end question
sfort -
Post a picture of the rear, it should be readily identifiable. See the attached pic.
As for the gear ratio, to may have to test it, since there's no way of knowing if it's stock or not. Fairly simple to ratio the times the drive shaft rotates to the number of times a wheel rotates.

We have decoded the vin and fender tag. Neither mentioned rear axle. I am wondering if listed as a sport package or something.

A little confused. Are you trying to restore it to original or want to know what you have???
You're probably going to have to find the build or broadcast sheet. It's usually under the rear seat, but again, some didn't survive, if the car was hot rodded back in the day.
A lot of those cars didn't stay stock for very long.

Yes it's a car I am going to buy. It does have the rear seat in it I will look there. The car was a Rally 340 1-4bbl engine with a torqueflight transmission. Since I am going back over to look under the back seat I will look at the rear end to make sure it is an 8 3/4. I want to make sure what gears and wether or not it is a posi as well.

Jack the car up from the diff housing and rotate one wheel. If the other wheel rotates in the same direction it's a posi, if it rotates in the opposite direction, it isn't.
Count the number of times the wheel rotates and compare that to the number of times the drive shaft rotates. The ration of shaft to wheel, should be something like 2.73:1, 3.23:1, etc.

360 crate engine
The car came with a Mopar Performance crate engine. It is the cast iron head version 390HP. My pic will not down load so I will take another and post later. I will be asking lots of questions from the guys on this forum. I found a guy that bought a 70 cuda with a built 318 and he plans to pull the 318 and put a 500+c.i. in its place. I am working a deal to get the accessory bracketry, alt., power steering pump, ac, and radiator. He plans to make the cuda a "hot rod" no power steering or ac.
No not Yet. But I will. I have been very busy due to a death in the family and being spread very thin trying to get the estate finalized. I have been able to round up a radiator, a/c unit with all the plumbing (working), distributor and electronic box, alt. and all bracketry, p/s pump and steerilg box and a drive shaft. All off a running car. Going to pull it today. The guy is going big block and just wants to get ride of this stuff.
1999 Durango Transmission
I have a 1999 Durango that just became a donor car. It has a 360 Magnum and was running fine before an accident put it put of service. Is the transmission a possible option for my 73 challenger rally project? The engine being put in the Challenger is a 390hp/360/mpp crate motor. Due to the Durango being FI I do know if that is an issue.
You could use the tranny if its a 2wd unit (if not then you would have to get the tailshaft housing swapped) with the Magnum motor but you'll have to swap over part of the wiring harness and the ECM since it is a 46RE (electronic control).
Is the motor you are swapping in a Magnum or LA based? If its a Magnum, you can install an aftermarket (Mopar Performance I think) MPFI intake so that you can keep the FI and not have to hack up as much of the wiring. Not to mention the aftermarket intake will flow much better than the dome style that Dodge went with.

Easiest is to stick with a carb !! Or switch to an Eldebrock / Holly system for fuel injection. The trans can be made to work, You will have to modify the trans mount, shorten the driveshaft, and adapt the computer
Is there Some where?
That talks about using these electronic transmissions on carburated engines. I can start with the MPP guys and see what they think about the conversion. I have seen some posts on another site that says to shy away from an automatic on this engine for the street. I realize it is a single plane intake but that can be changed.
the trany swap is as TVLynn say
check out my post the big swap im installing a 518/46re in place of a 727 in my 86 m body found lots of pictures on the web
to day i start the swap this is the second time ive done a swap like this but this is by far the most involved
the od and lu servos i use relays and push buttons im making a custom t handle out of wood for the shifter and im going to install the switches in the handle
check out the other post i got pics and measurements
