dealership clone
For ten years I've been looking for my dad's old 69 Dart GTS. There is a post floating around here somewhere and I listed what I knew about the car. With no VIN, I did not have much to go on. I believe I found the car this past week. I spoke to the current owner, and the past owner, who bought it from the guy my dad sold it to. Only problem is...the car is not a GTS. Its a Swinger. However, every single known owner of this car has assumed it was a GTS. It was a gold 340 car, just as my father's was, but a Swinger. No one else really bothered with the VIN. My dad sold it in '96, the next owner didn't have it very long, and the next guy's son drove it. It's been in pieces for the last 20 years. My question is, do you think it's possible this car was cloned at the dealership? Say a guy wanted a GTS but they only had a Swinger on the lot. The car had a stripe but it had been painted over, so my father never saw it clearly. I believe the car did have a GTS badge on the hood, but not the fenders. I think we always assumed this was because it had been painted. Now I'm thinking its because it was never a GTS in the first place.

I guess some one might have added the options???
Are you still looking to get the car? If so, I dont think it really matters as long as you get the car your dad had.... Kind of a cool deal if you ask me... Heirlooms are neat...

Yes I'm still going to go for it. I mailed off a form to the DMV...they have ownership records, but it seems at this point that this is the car. Could take weeks or longer for the DMV to send me the records. Its a big project but it'll be worth it.
