Manual to power steering 73 Duster 340
Hi all from the UK, my 73 Duster 340 arrived from Orlando last week, very happy Mopar owner. few things I want to do, first convert the manual to power steering. I know I need the pump and steering gear/box and pipes, but I found out the manual steering column is too long and wrong size splines?
Any information on the parts needed would be grateful.
Thanks Steve

Well I know this isn't right but when my car was first bought it had manual steering. Factory was ps. So I got all the ps parts installed them. Like you said the shaft was too long. What I did was remove the lower shaft and then I replaced just the lower shaft. This is a collapsible steering column your ll have to break the plastic that's makes it collapsible. Cut the shaft or install the ps lower shaft. I don't remember buying a new column at the time so I think there might be room to push the shaft in higher in the column. But this was 25 years ago I did this and never had a problem.
I know this isn't the correct thing to do but if you can't find a column it will work. I think it's only an inch or two. You can cut the lower shaft if your worried about the shaft coming up into you face in a front end collision.
