how's your carburetor float? needle? the needles can get stuck, causing flood...i went through this one last month. beware a carb fire!

carb issues can also cause plug fouling. also, fouled plugs can cause the stalling.

let her sit for an hour or so then manually pump the accelerator from the engine, watch your carb, check for gas leaks around the bowl gasket. one thing we've done is to whack the carb bowl with a hammer, if the needle is stuck this often frees it up and she'll start again. do not start if there is gas leakage on the exhaust manifold! rinse it off with water or let it evaporate.

are you having any 'surges?' like when you're driving, your engine drops out then lunges?

Well, theres your problem...

Gas doesn't last as long as it used to now with all the additives they put in...

Throw some FRESH gas in and a set of plugs and you'll be set.

Sounds like vapor lock to me. If it happens again, I'd try to reroute the fuel lines away from any heat sources.

The symptoms really sound like vapor lock, but you said you have gas, I assume yo meant that you could see gas squirting from the carb, right?

Humm... how did the points look???

Regarding the old gas and plugs, if you have to let it sit for that long, throw some Sta-bil in the tank.

The make a phenoseal (?) type spacer that disipates the heat from between the intake and carb to keep that from happening. Depending on what RPM range your motor is built for/works in, you can get different spacers ranging from 1/2" to 2" and either single wide open hole design or a 4 hole design.
