New member just purchased a ‘69 Runner body and interior close to a 10. Engine needing a refresh not matching numbers car but in great and beautiful shape. Black bench seat 4-speed interior B7 Jamaican Blue exterior with factory white body stripes. Engine is out of car ready for complete reboot from bottom end up. Appreciate any suggestions or ideas what you guys would do if it was yours. Looking forward to conversations. Thanks!

 

Keep it simple stupid, that is all motor mods for performance if any are done. To many times performance mods will take over the fun factor of owning and driving the car.

I agree with keeping it simple. I've done a few of these and keeping it basic is the best for the road. Don't fall into the large cam mistake like I've done. The stock 383/440 cam is the best choice. 268/284 duration with I believe 450/458 lift. Chrysler knew what they were doing using this cam. Read 540RAT blog on break-in oil and which oil to use. If you choose not to read it the quick answer is don't use a break-in oil and run the highest wear protection oil from startup to end which is Quaker State 5w/30 Full synthetic with a high-volume oil pump not high pressure. Amsoil 5w30 is next.
