93 Dakota nightmare.ECM fail

I have a '93 5.2 auto/2wd . I'm on my third ecm. The tech that rebuilt the current one said the ignition coil driver inside the ecm was the cause of the ecm failure. What can cause the ignition coil driver to fail? I'm stumped! I've done the three to one splice repair, though it wasn't needed. HELP !!

That sounds odd..... All three the same guy rebuilt?

No. The last two times it was rebuilt, it was done by the same company. Blue Streak Electronics in Boca Raton, Fla. It was sent out by Monument Auto Parts, so it was sent to a reputable facility. I've always suspected it was something in the system that was causing the ecm failure, but this time the tech that rebuilt it said it was the ignition coil driver that was damaged by my truck. No more warranty.

Coil bad or system charging voltage too high. Also, bad plug wires OR OTHER cause in the ignition that allows overly high voltage.

HOW THIS WORKS

Something like an out of phase distributor, or a bad coil or plug wire, or broken plug, allows a very high voltage spike. The firing voltage is normally "loaded down" by the firing conditions in the cylinders. But when something is open, such as a burned wire, a hugh high voltage spike is generated.

This "gets back" into the system known by one thing as "reflected." That is, that high voltage spike is "seen" in the coil driver circuitry.

I would say in this case that it would be a good idea to start Ohm'ing Wires and do a little looking to see is something is shorted... Could be a rat got into some of the wiring... Just a thought..
Another thing that come to mind... The Charging System.... You don't see it too often. But a over charge might be causing quit a problem in the system???? Just food for thought.....
