Good to get back some of my stuff over to this phone. Couldn't get the g mail to work either. Lol not so savy. Fired engine up again today. Been running and trying to set timing. I think it needs about 36. Builder says it should idle around 10 or so. The cam is degreed , ati balancer and is set to tdc at true tdc #1. Builder says rev to about 3500 and set to 36 and see. Msd pro billet distributor and I'm not sure what the diz has in it. It's not locked down. Anyway I'm missing something. When we idle it seems good but when we start reving towards 3500 it shakes and runs like crap. I set to 36 but it's not right. Any thoughts or outrite help.

ok.... Start the car... Warm it up... Set the timing to 14* to start off with....
Run the motor up to 3500-4000 rpm and read what the timing is....
If its going past 36* ? Then Distributor will need to have the curve adjusted....

Going by the discription it sounds like you're up against the two step or the rev limiter.

Advance should be all in by 2500-3000 so try setting timing in that range @ 36 then look at idle timing. How big is the cam?

Make sure two step is off and rev limiter is set high enough, say 6000 to start.

Rev limiter is like 7000 The two step doesn't activate until trans bk. Is held. But I'll check that out.

Timing

We used this distributor and ignition set up last couple yrs. if that helps. But I will try this next. And see what we get. It doesn't sound like the two step , runs like it's out of balance , rough. It's all balanced. I'm going to check valve adjustment also. Hasn't been checked since being built but it hasn't ran much either. Let you know what I find. Thanks , it's supposed to be in the 60 s Christmas. 40s and 50s next few. So hopefully I can get this lined out. Then it's off to be lined up.

I believe the MP benchmark timing is recommended to be set at 2000 rpm.

Here is a link to their various total mechanical timing benchmarks. I've used it with great success in the past.

http://wawii.com/m37/manuals/MoPar%2...lecignconv.pdf

You can probably just scroll down to page 5 or 6. and there is also a few troubleshooting examples.

Seemed like it ran better the first couple of times we started it. But we know it wasn't right. Now runs ok at idle when you start going up it starts running rough higher you go the worse it seems to get. Going to pull V covers today and check out rockers and valve lash. But it's just out of time I think.

I Don't Know...... Bob do you?
There that's out of the the way.........

I asked what size your cam was because I run 38 total with only 5 to 10 advance in the distributor, my FT cams are in the 280 + @ .050 lift range. And yes thats a lot of initial timing.

You want all your advance in, depending on the cam and fuel,by 2500-2700.

Hummmmm.... Al... Also... Sorry, I'm getting forgetful... But are you running the full msd system?
If so... The timing light your using might be giving you grief ?????
Some of the timing lights "Inductive Picks" do not like the multi-spark and throw the light way out of wack...
Just food for thought...

So warm up engine set idle to 14 Rev. to 3500 if it goes past 36 we will have to work on dizzy. Ok Bob I'll let you know. Merry Christmas brother. Al
