Question 440 with 671 Problems , Need Help!

This is my very first try with a Blower so I need any help! I have a 440 .030" over with 7025P 10.5 to 1 pistons, deck clean .010" , Comp Cam .570" lift solid lifter (not a blower cam) with 671 Blower ( 43 Top Pulley , 34 bottom pulley 1/2" pitch)with twin 660 Holleys newly rebuild, (blower ref) with vac line hooked up at manifold, 2" custom headers, MSD Coil & 6AL Ignition with MSD Mech advance dist., 18 deg. timing. I took compression away using .100" Flat-out head shim plus using a Felpro .039" o-ring gaskets trying to get down to 8.5 to 1 ratio. My issue I can only get it to run once it hits & it takes allot to keep it running by holding high throttle won't idle what so ever, tried all 4 idle screws at several different settings none works, plugs are black & sooty as hell! Any hints are gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

My 2 cents.....
I'm guessing all things are in order. Timing, No Vacuum leaks, ect.
Sounds like you got things way out of wack on the build....
I think the problem is your blowing out the flame....
I'm going to guess that this this is at about 8lbs of boost pressure.
This in turns make the compression ratio around 14.5-15.0.1... Not sure But a guess.... If your trying to run this on pump gas... You are fighting a loosing battle...
How the hell did you wined up with that combo for a blown motor anyway?
I'll give you a "good" for tying... But you are going to need to get the pencil back out as far as I can see....

OK.. So lets work on it...

Drop the blower. Put a set of dual quads on it or a six pack setup. OR do a rebuild FOR a blower, correct cam & pistons With all the shim on the head ? Did you get custom push rods ?

Welcome. Did you boost reference the Power Valve with your modification?

Have you restricted the idle circuit, I'm guessing the idle screw adjustments don't have any effect on the idle speed.

I did say I was new to the blower setups for sure, I can't see just having blower pistons making 8.5:1 is that much different having 10.5:1 pistons making 8.5:1 , that why I was shooting for under driving it 5-8 lbs. boost for street app only. If I'm making 14:1 with my pistons I still would make 14:1 with blower pistons. I agree cam is wrong for that setup, I just believe it won't idle & am that rich. So your saying nothing I can do?

Combination is out of whack. I was sure you had to use a blower cam with a blower.

They (Blower Cams) just work better.... they are a bit more stable..... Could be as simple as the motor dosent have enough valve spring in it.
I think you could possably make the combo work. (And I use that term lightly)
But your going to take most of the boost out of it for now.
You might get it to run on about 2 lbs of boost and then work up from there.
Just really not a good starting point... Thats all....

Carb to Much

Had a Brain Fart! Plugs sooty & Black maybe to much fuel, disconnect the linkage off one carb, installed new plugs put air screw about 3/4" turn. Since couldn't verify timing was right tried to static time the ignition, that was way off, started moving the distributor & trying to start then lite right up purred like a cat! Really sounded great with all my head shims wrong , pistons & cam & everything out of whack! Imagine that! But now why can't run on 2 carbs. Any good way to lean out idle circuit on holleys?

Are the 650 Carbs Double pumpers? OR are they the Vacuum Secondary carbs?

To lean the Idle, all you need to do is turn in the idle air screws....

If the carbs have not been set up for a Blower Motor, I would recommend the you head to your local Carb Gou-roo....
Sounds to me like the carb are drawing fuel when it's supposed to?

Not really sure what the rest of the shim stuff and all that talk is about?

I use Bob & George over at Vrbancic Brothers Racing or know as "The Carb Shop" In Ontario Cal.
