Having broke a cast crank in a 360 I would go forged for the extra insurance and ability to up grade Nitrous or turbo

You should be able to replace the cast crank with a steel crank; however most cast cranks are externally balanced and most steel cranks are internally balanced. This means you will have to replace the harmonic balancer and the flexplate /torque converter. This assembly would need to be rebalanced. The other option would be to balance the steel crank externally and use the harmonic balancer and flexplate/torque converter you have. you might have to replace the plate that attaches the torque converter to the crank.
