440 MPG

Hello everyone.

What do you think about my 440 fuel consumption, here the engine specs (I give you all) :

1973 440, stock head cylinders, probably low comp pistons, MSD 6AL, blaster 2 coil, stainless exhaust, Holley Sniper EFI injection, Holley Dual Sync distributor (36 à WOT), Edelbrock Torker II intake.

Comp Cams camshaft : duration 284 intake, 296 exhaust. @ .050" lift : 240 int, 246 exh. valve lift : 0.507 int, 0.51 exh.

8 3/4 axle, I think I have a 3.93 gear, I'm not sure about the gear because the factory tachometer is not really accurate.

Tires : P235/60/R15

I run with E85, so I up the fuel around 30%, with i've done a 4.8 MPG, just short travels, no highway, something like 7/10 mileswithout being really kind with the weight of my right foot.
. With basical gasoline I would be around the 6,8 MPG.

Is that seems right to you ?

Your rt foot has a lot to do with fuel mileage but 8 to 10 is what I would be looking for with your combination. One thing with the low compression e85 is less that ideal, 12 to 13.5 to 1 cr would be more efficient.

Thank you, I guess so for E85, is just for price, I will upgrade my compression in some years with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads (75 cc) and KB237 pistons, I will be around the, 10.6/10.7 to 1.

I will add that going from 8 to 1 to 13 to one with light pistons will give you 50 hp and a substantial increase in torque more than 50 ftlbs.

Thank you. The Holley EFI is new, I will keep you update, with the time the EFI will learn, and maybe 1 or 2 advices from EFI professional will incrase MPG. But I didn't purshaded a 440 for good MPG, I'm just asking for know if everething is fine.

I think rite now... The cam is too big.... And The Intake is not a dual plane... That is what is hurting the mileage the most rite now.. I think things will be better when all things in the engine is matched.. Just my 2 cents.

For real I look the performer RPM intake since a long time, but Torker 2 is just below so I keeped my money for the heads and piston. I never put off the heads for seen the pistons, but (I'm not an expert) I thing I'm around the 250 HP, too bad for a high performance engine, the guy who put this engine on the Challenger as begun a good job with this engine, maybe money stoped him, or maybe he didn't have the time to finish that, I imported the car in France, after a search on internet I seen the old owner is missing...
