440 total timing?

what should my total timing be on my 440?

77 440 .040 over, about 8:1 compression, 509/292 cam, I think 4.11 gears

That cam 15 initial 34-36 total.

I would set initial with vacuum gauge to get the most vacuum then adjust mechanical advance to get total without ping. May take a few tries, but worth it with that low compression.

I agree.....
However i like to do it a little differently.....
With everything hooked up...Run the engine up to 2500RPM and set the timing @ 34*.... tighten up the bracket... reset the curb idle... and test drive it....

Just my 2 cents

I run a MSD distributor so you do it with a cam and a spring.
