Hey everyone,

Relatively new to the forums and have a carb question that has me twisted at the moment.

I have a 68 Charger RT 440 Automatic, with factory AC and Cruise Control (both not hooked up). The engine is out of a 1970 440 and currently has a Carter AVS 4968S (750 CFM) carb. Based on the number, it is most likely the carb that came with the 1970 engine.

Here's what I'm trying to untangle:
If I get the 4968S rebuilt, is it the correct carb to handle the AC and cruise control if I get those functioning again. (Remember it is a 68 car with a 70 engine)

I have a carb rebuild guy that currently has a rebuilt Carter AVS 4429S carb from a 69 440. He says it will work with the '70 engine and the accessories.

Because I can't find the specs for each Carter AVS on line, it's really hard to know if I should get the 4968S rebuilt, install the 4429S or try to find the original Carter AVS model that came with the car. Want to stick with the Carter carbs. Oh and yes, enjoy the pic of the zip ties on the choke linkage from the former owner, those are off now.

Both look to me like there for the same body style car....
Engine size looks to be the same fit....
Both look to be for A.T.....
4968S.. Look to be around 71 440's
4429S... Look's to be around 1968 440's

So that leaves the question on the CFM ?????


But with todays fuel and all... Look them over good... Not sure how period correct you looking to stay. But I would try to stay with the bigger carb to adjust for todays type fuel.... Just food for thought

Guys thank you for all the responses. I would like to stay period correct eventhough it is a 70 engine. I found one of these sources on line and the carb rebuild guy sent me the other. it appears in 68 the 4429S would be correct without AC, but with AC it would be the 4637S. What is the difference between an AC and non AC carb?

I'll step out on a limb here...lol
One might have the Deceleration pod or the step up solenoid for the A/C car so it would not have a stalling issue? Just a matter of a hole and a pin provision..
But that just a guess on my part !!!
