Water pump damage

I have a 1969 Plymouth Fury III with a 318 automatic.
Had the water pump replaced in late January, and about a month later the new water pump is making noise and leaking (again).

Here it is after it was removed.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?
Notice every single impeller blade is cracked and about to break loose, and was scraping against the housing.
Also, on the outside the bearings around the shaft had been pushed out a good 1/4 inch.
Again, this water pump was less than a month old (remanufacture - purchased from O'Reilly's Auto Parts).

What could cause something like this to happen?

Chunks in the cooling system? Looks like a clearance issue, but I don't see any scrapes. Dunno, what was up with the original pump you had changed out?

Might be pulley alignment...... Check to make sure there is not a forward pull on the water pump pulley from the belts....

Also To knock out that many pumps,,,, I would look for an unbalanced Pulley or Fan...

It was quite clear that it was a reman pump and the impellers were probably cracked in the assembly process. For the price difference never used a remanufactured pump they are only as good as the person putting them together. If that pump did let go and you didn't hear it the damage would of been much more then what it was. Bite the bullet and put a new pump and call it a day.... A lesson well learned cheap is never better...Bill

Strange that all the blades are cracked in the same place. Get a good quality rebuild. The fact that the front bearing was out ? something wrong with the assembly, too much pressure to press the impeller on...

Cheap modern day Chineseo / Mexican rebuilders. Rebuilders were bad enough "always" but worse now

The rust is interesting, what in the world are you running for coolant?
