hi, new teenager, need transmission info

hello, I may be lucky enough to get a '74 charger that i found in bad condition on the cheap, if I do get it, I plan on doing an engine and transmission swap, from 318 auto, to a cheap 400 and a manual, the problem is, i have no idea what transmissions will bolt up to a 400ci BB. any help or info is greatly apreciated, thanks.

The common one would be the factory A833 4 speed. There are other options if you have the $$$$, BE careful Figure what work it needs and check on costs and availability of parts Nothing is cheap !!!

What is the 400 out of? If its a truck, chances are its a NP435 and Dodge used two versions of that tranny.

you will either need a mount kit from Schumakers engineswaps.com or a different K frame for the big block

I'm not sure what the 400 is out of, and are you sure that you would need new mounts, the 400 was an option that ear, as well as the previous few, just in case you didn't realize, if you already knew and that is just the way it is for that year, well thank you for the information, thank you all, and btw, the 4 speed wouldn't be a problem, so thank you, but I would prefer a five speed if possible, any info on that? thanks again to all

when my brother did his 318 to 440 swap in his dart swinger it was a direct bolt up no custom mount for the k member the mount on the 440 where out of a 73 Plymouth road runner, if the 400 cam out of a van or a pickup you will need passenger car mounts on the block but other than that no big thing.

ok, thank you very much, but it seems now that there is a very slim chance of me getting this car now, we have to make a very expensive trip next week, and wont be able to afford a car on top of that, so unless its still for sale in a couple of months, I've wasted y'all's time, thank you very much for the help though
