I'm building a 1951 Fargo truck.
its on a 1988 Dakota chassis.
with a 400 and 727 auto.
I'm at the wiring stage and I have a couple different scenarios I need to run to get opinions.
I am using part of the dakota wiring harness and it had the coil + wire tied in with the fuel pump.
if I wire it like the second pic, when the engine is running the fuel pump will be powered through the ballast resistor?
am I over thinking this??lol
I'll post some truck pics in another post
Looks like a great project, the only question I would have is why the oil pressure switch wired in, with today's gas I think I would want the fuel pump to run prior to the engine starting even with a tq.

um thats the whole point of the oil psi switch, it gives the pump power while starting, then when it gets oil pressure it'll stay running, but if the engine dies the pump shuts off.
I think we are missing the point, key on fuel pump on before start before crank. I understand about the oil pressure shut off just not a fan. That's what big red lights are for, and mechanical gage's for oil presser.

using an oil pressure switch is the "approved" method from what I can tell. Google electric fuel pump wiring.
I am using a mechanical gauge for oil pressure
big red lights? They aren't going to help if your in an accident and the fuel pump continues to pump fuel onto a fire.
I've been around fast cars for the last forty years and the only time I can think of your way would have been a good idea was when a friend stopped by another's and left his Camaro running, he stayed to long ran the car out of gas and ran the battery down. Kinda funny when I heard about it. You might run another switch to fill carb prior to starting, that will help if that's a cast iron intake and your using a fuel with alcohol in it. Today's fuel tends to percalate out of the carb.
That Vega switch was a pain and caused grief, it would leave a guy sitting with a car that will not start. Even when it has oil pressure but a bad sender, this I have seen more than once and heard from others. I don't like the Vega sender setup.
Essentially that's what he is doing, using a Vega style sender to run the fuel pump, a better way is to do what the car manufacturers did a use a trip relay for a collision if that's what the concern is.
