Oh man.... That is a mess to have to clean up, Miss. is having it really tough... yikes...

Our kids got snowed in over in Atoka... But other that just playing in the snow and having to keep warm, they are doing ok... Have not lost power or had any water line breakage.... I herd the National Guard was out helping people in need and the Jeep 4 Wheelers was out helping as well... I guess a couple of the WalMart employees had to spend the night cause they couldnt go home, so I hear they where open for folks in need of stuff, if someone could wheel in and get it to them.. Not sure the local law enforcement approved of that ????
Good to hear you are in good shape .... Cheers

The only good thing I can think about winter is that it’s followed by spring. I’m still dealing with back pain from falling five years ago on my front steps. I think I was in my fifties when I noticed that I actually did not care for winter, I was comfortable going out and hoping in my trunk in a sweat shirt and gloves on a -20 morning and driving to work. Now I need a chore coat over the sweatshirt and I’m cold for an hour after I get to where I’m going.

Oh Man.... I know how you feel..... The good thing where i am at.... You have to drive up into the snow!!! And as soon as you get tired of it you can turn around and head to the beach and put your flip flops, Tank Top, and shorts on....
Its about the only good thing about California... The Weather and your only a 2 hour drive from anything you want to do...

Yeah the Mid South Jeep club has been transporting essential workers to their jobs and pulling stuck cars out of ditches and such. And dang, I was hoping to see how the AWD works on my Durango. NOT. Sucky thing is we're going to be below freezing until Thursday when we're supposed to get up to a toasty 33, then Friday another Arctic blast knocks us back down into the mis 20's Friday and through at least early next week. One good thing is it's allowing me to get back onto my cars again, at least the small plastic kind. I've always been a modeler, and after my uncle passed away in 2023 he left me a huge stash of kits. Some I sold off but I've got around a couple dozen still left to build, I'm starting a 55 Chevy tomorrow, going to do a Two Lane Blacktop version with it. Hey, it keeps me out of trouble. Man, have y'all noticed how much those frigging things are nowadays? I remember when they hit $4 I thought OK, I'm done. Now a cheap one is $30. I don't buy them, or paint or glue, unless Hobby Lobby has one of their 50% off sales and it's still insane for a few ounces of plastic...

Well stay warm and be safe!!!!
I herd some fog was floating around and it was wet, really causing havoc on top of all the rest of what’s going on..
Sheriff Shannon up in Atoka / Tipton said Hwy 51 was good to go for day time driving, but getting there was a whole different story!!!!

I use to build lots of models…
I had an old rifle glass case that I converted into a model case.. it was really cool, all my friends loved it..
I let it go when I moved away from home… You know girls 🙄🙄

a good close friend of mine still builds them.. He has gotten real good at it after 40+ years… lol

Like me and my friend love to tell people.. “If you can’t afford to build full size cars, at least we can build cool little ones”!!!

good to know you still like building little ones… Much cheaper.. lol

Be safe and stay warm brother!!!

Hey Bob, yeah, I still enjoy building them but the eyes and hands aren't so sure anymore.

We're getting a little better each day, we got above freezing yesterday and today, plus the sun is absolutely blinding so it's helping, but most of the secondary and neighborhood streets are still hockey rinks. I did get the Durango cleared off yesterday; I've been driving almost 45 years and this was the first time I've ever had a car frozen to the driveway. It took 5 tries, reverse to forward, to get it unstuck. Dang, even the usps has suspended mail delivery, I haven't seen a mailman since Friday. So much for "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds". Check this picture of I-55 between Panola and Desoto counties in northern Mississippi, it's been like this since Tuesday night. Not a good selling point for EV's, is it...

If I can get the garage door open tomorrow I think I'll crank up the '36 and let 'er run up to operating temp. If nothing else the engine heat ought to warm up the garage a little bit!

I dusted off my CDL for a few years in the 2000s and spend quite a bit of time in the southern states during the winter and in seamed there was a line from KC to north of Nashville and Atlanta that got quite a bit of freezing rain during winter. And those people didn’t know how to drive in it, I was fifty miles out of Nashville one night driving one wet roads at 34 degrees on a hilly stretch of interstate when the outside temp dropped to 26 degrees, now at this time I had cars passing me doing 70+ and I had slowed to 55, but I came up over a rigid and there must have been 120 cars not only in the dich but off in the fields with there four ways one. Geez nobody saw that one coming. lol Got into Nashville and it was 50 degrees and guys were riding motorcycles.

We got pretty lucky here. Only 3 days of single digits and a few inches of snow. Roads have been dry since yesterday. Met with surgeon today and am going to be having knee surgery in a few weeks. Been resisting the doctor since July but the bad days are outnumbering the good days. Have multiple bucket handle tears in my meniscus from a climbing injury. Tired of it effecting me and preventing good hard climbs. Need it better before summer because I hope to get my first 1,000+ ft climb.

Iowan, you're right, people here forget from year to year how to drive in it since it normally only hits once and only sticks around for a few days. This has been nearly a week now and probably won't completely clear off until sometime next week. It is funny listening to the truck drivers the news media have been interviewing the last few days though about the difference in driving on snow up north vs ice in the south. Mississippi did end up closing I-22 from the Tennessee state line to the Alabama state line, and northbound I-55 from Grenada MS to Memphis yesterday to try and clear the interstates a little bit. We got a little melting yesterday, the temp warmed up to the upper 30's, more than they were expecting, and we're supposed to top 40 today but back into the freezer tomorrow with possibility of more snow, highs in the low 20's and lows in the single digits. Mind you our normal high is 52. Two of our tv stations are offline because of ice built up on their satellite dishes!

I feel ya Xaza, I'm looking at a right knee replacement after 40 years of doing electrical work. Climbing ladders plus walking and kneeling on hard concrete, steel gratings, rocks and dirt clods doing ditch work took a hard toll. I've had it drained a couple of times and got a cortisone shot at the end of September. My ortho doc doesn't want to do surgery until it's basically intolerable but I'm still able get around moderately well with a limp; it's more of a dull ache than painful at this point. It's a sumbitch to kneel down on though - there isn't a kneeling pad thick enough to bear the garage floor - which is why after a year I still haven't finished the PB booster swap in my Challenger.

We moved from South Dakota to Alexandria, Virginia in the early 70s because my dad took a job working for the congressman from South Dakota in DC. The first winter there we got a 3 inch snowfall and I remember walking to the school bus pick up and my dad pulled up in the car and told me we didn’t have school. I asked him why and he said because of snow, I could not believe it for 3 inches of snow we would be out of school for two days, the funny thing was we had blooming roses poking up through the snow. That happened another time in the two years I was out there we live on top of a tall hill, so we just went snow sledding all day, something we didn’t do in South Dakota.

Well the weather gurus said yesterday we set a new record for the most consecutive days with snow on the ground at 8 days. I've had enough winter to last me the rest of my life. I can't wait to see how full my mailbox will be after more than a week of the post office being closed. On the plus side, we're supposed to get back into the 50's next week, even a few nights above freezing, I'm looking so forward to not having to let my faucets drip.

Hey all, hope everybody's having a good Friday eve, things are finally starting to get back to normal around here. Streets are mostly clear of the white stuff, just some spotty black ice in the mornings. The mail finally started running again on Tuesday, first time in almost a week and a half. It's supposed to be in the upper 50's to mid 60's this weekend and through much of next week, think I'll get the '36 out and stretch her legs some. I might even get a wild hair and start back on the Challenger, you just never know...
I guess everybody's heard by now but Ed Iskendarian died this week at 104 years young. For sure one of the legends.
With the crummy weather the last couple of weeks I've been binging on car movies. Started with Two Lane Blacktop about a week ago, then came Funny Car Summer, American Nitro, Heart Like A Wheel, Snake & Mongoose, and I'll finish over the weekend with Race Hemi Revisited and Mopar Madness.

Have a great weekend!

We booked a cruise last spring for beginning of Feb. Was looking forward to escaping the freeze but got to Miami on the coldest day in 15 years. Made for a bit cooler cruise than expected but it was still great, short of a few hiccups. Will share a few pics. Next month is a little rough with all the doctor appointments making me feel old. Pre op exam, operation, post op and colon check. Government decided to throw in a jury duty too.

Morning all, got the '36 out this morning and headed to its first Cars & Coffee of the new year, kind of airish @ 50° but the sun felt good. Had a fairly nice turnout for mid February. Tell you what, that little thing sure does like brisk weather, car was froggy as hell...

A friend of mine generously shared an old super 8 home movie her folks shot during a day at the old Lakeland International Raceway back in 1970, got some good footage of Larry Reyes, Ronnie Sox, Mickey Thompson, Roger Lindamood and several others making runs. I took a few screen grabs from the film. The white Road Runner was her dad's, grocery getter during the week, race car on weekends. Gotta love it...

We've got a killer nice weekend coming, got into a sunny low 70's today and it's supposed to be even nicer tomorrow. Knees be willing I'm gonna head out and try to get something done on the Challenger tomorrow, at the very least get the old brake booster off and ready to put the new one back on. I say knees be willing 'cause I went and got cortisone shots in both of them Tuesday and the left one has been achy to beat all. Naturally just in time for the weather to begin breaking and get nice. Anyhoo, I bought a new DeWalt DA sander to prep the firewall on my '36 for a quick respray after its engine fire, that's all it needs to be back to its normal self, and have gathered a nice little pile the Challenger's been waiting on for far too long- new engine harness to replace the original that was hacked and butchered to smithereens, the new brake booster, a new 750 Edelbrock carb to replace the headache Demon on it now, the new carpet is ready to go back in. Gonna see what I can do tomorrow... Hope everybody has a great weekend!

A new carb, are you getting one of those Holley knockoffs, I’ve read about them and they have gotten positive reviews. My little Ford needs a 750 and I’ve been thinking about getting one for it.

Morning, No I got the AVS style 750 Performer. I've also read good things about the newer VRS series and if the car was going to see any track time I might have gone that direction, but at twice the price (nearly $900 vs the $435 I paid for mine) and with it essentially being a street cruiser, just going with what I know works.
