Good Morning Mopar Family.... Have a awesome day !!!!
Iowan, So happy to hear that your starting to feel better!!! That's Great News!!! Hope you and the boy are able to get some cool shop time in this spring and summer...
AS for the cabin fever, I'm in a good place and don't get much snow unless I want to get up in it.. lol
We did get a little that fell in the area, that was unusual but nice for a change. It has been cold for us here. But I'm use to being in the cooler weather in our shop, But it was cold enough to take notice! That's for sure. Had to put on an extra layer and a heavier jacket.... The Wife kept saying she was really cold, so needed to warm the house up a little extra. But nothing a little good pot of warm soup and cornbread wouldn't take care of...
Yeah Bob I’m going to get back on the Fairlane, I need to pull the 289 because I put the wrong spacer plate on it so I’m thinking it’s time to go through the heads with better valves and springs, increase the lift from.560 to.620 and decrease duration from 248@050 to 244@050. I did nothing to the heads but verify them and bolt them on so a little clean up is in order.. The 292 made 245 tq and 455 hp the last time it was on the dyno Id like a few more numbers closer to 500 in the same power curve and RPM…
Then I still need to finish the rear end setup and four wheel disk brakes.
Should be a fun little ride when I get done.
How long does it take you guys to pull an engine, go through it and get it back in? Motor swap we can usually get it done in a weekend but it always seems to take a couple weeks to months for a rebuild.
I'm too old and messed up physically>>>> Hahahahahaha So we dont get in a hurry anymore.
But back in the day, we had a few motors sitting around, we could swap a motor on Friday, Race it on Saturday and put the other motor back in it on Sunday, and drive it back to work on Monday-Friday.
Then we wanted to go track racing and spent all week working on race cars just go racing for the weekend....
But those days of funding and ambition are long gone... Now I just sit around and bench race most of the time and talk about old times.... Sold my last racing operation back in 2011 and haven't been back in the game. really dont have any plans to be... And with my wife being sick and all, Something had to give.
My last complete build was a my sons, theft recovery 1973 Chevy C30.... They stole the engine and trans (350ci / T.H.350) and i built a Big Block Chevy 468 with a T.H.400 and installed it in the truck... Its a torque monster....
Good Morning and Happy Friday for us......
The rain has left for a few days and we are going to have some great sunshine here in SO-CAL....
Got to get out and get some yard work done and maybe take a look at the old 1977 Dodge D150 (WARLOCK)...
Hey Bob the sun is out in Iowa too, I stopped by my buddies shop today and talked with them about my little Ford motor and while they like my train of thought for the 289 they have a dozen Ford W motors to build. So he’s not taking any new work in for awhile, I guess I’m on the list. Meanwhile I'm going to see if I can get the oil changed in my daily driver and clean the interior. It hasn’t been a work truck for years but it still has tools and parts in all the nooks and crannies so its time…
That sounds great Tom.... Sorry to hear that the Engine Shop is booked..... But I guess that is a good thing for them, Better to have lots of work, more than not work at all... Always good to do some TLC on the Vehicles

It’s funny when the economy is down there shop gets busy as hell?
Tom,
I am not 100% sure! It was sent to me from a friend a few years back. We were having a discussion on wheels and tire sizes on some of the stock and super stock cars.
Are you familiar with this long time competitive hot rod?

I’ve known TJ since he was ten or eleven years old so probably forty years, his late uncle was a friend of mine who built my transmissions and did my machine work.
Wow.... It sure is funny how small the world gets at times !!!!!! Hahahahahahahahahaha
Thats a awesome little tid-bit Tom..... You never know, I may even find a photo of you one day at the track !!!!!
Cheers My Friend !!!! You and the boy have a nice Blessed Easter... Race on Mopar Brother..
Dropping in to say hello. Hope everyone is doing well. We set record highs in the 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday we were back to snow. Hope we are almost done with the snow. Trailer is scheduled to be done in 6 days! I then have 2 weeks to finish my part of the work for it's maiden voyage. Have to repair lights/add fender lights and reflectors. Mount plate and prepare tent. Will be starting to get pictures into build thread soon.

Good to hear !!! Hope you are all fit and ready for some climbing !!!!! Cheers
Been quiet in here last couple weeks, everybody doing good and up to no good? Got trailer back and took it out last weekend, will post up in build thread on it. We also got in our first outdoor climbing weekend of the year. Memorable and scary weekend. Routes had a lot of spacing between protection points and had my heart racing.
Good Morning Mopar family and friends,
Hope you are having a great day? Been working on the old dodge (1977 Dodge D150 "Warlock" 360 V-8), and boy have we been fighting !!!!
Been chasing a Charging issue, At first the truck was undercharging at idle and the voltage meter would jump up and down at a stoplight. So i decided to swap out the alternator and voltage regulator with a reman. alternator and a new voltage regulator. After replacing those, the truck had an overcharging problem, and was hanging around 15 Volts for some odd reason? After a couple new voltage regulators and installing / Replacing a couple of add grounds that had been added over the years for the reasons of just making sure we never have a grounding issue with a the rust that develops with the older cars and truck.
So i decided to get a good TransPo regulator and adjust this regulator to the nat's azz... So I did that and the result was the same! Now i'm starting to get mad.
Meanwhile every so often this truck is knocking out ECU's from what i was thinking was overcharging voltage...
So now i'm mad and thinking " Man, I got to get a handle on this issue"
I pick up another Alternator and voltage regulator, and install in it the truck. ( Now this brings us to why the truck has been down) and I get in the truck and turn the ignition key, and white smoke starts bellowing out from under the hood !!!!!!! (ME: Holly Crap !!!!!!), turn the key off, jump out of the truck, unhook the battery, and I am standing there with my jaw on the ground and the look of defeat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after scratching my azz, "oh scratch that", my head, i have to look and see what i have done.
So we open up the wiring loom and replace the wires that needed to be replaced.
Come to find out, the 2 field wires had been shorted to the alternator case during rebuild !!!!! So we get another alternator and voltage regulator and install those and low and behold, Now we have a crank with a not start !!!!! Yep no spark... Oh boy !!!! the chase is on !!!! After a few hours of running around with my hair on fire and getting madder by the minute. I decided to throw in the towel.
It was at this point, I decided to order and install a Pertronix Flame-Thrower II and a Blaster Coil.....
So we get everything installed and turn the key, and light tis bad dawg off again! Run good and it is charging 14 to 14.5 volts and that's good enough for me..
As for the OEM ignition circuit i'll revisit it in another dimension....
Hope you are all having a great day.... Be safe..... And remember, IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT !!!
